

A five-year-old girl has sadly died after a road traffic collision involving a van in the Springfarm Heights area of Newry on Sunday night. Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman and are appealing for witnesses or dash-cam footage.
A five-year-old girl has sadly died following a road traffic collision in Newry, police have confirmed.
The collision happened in the Springfarm Heights area at around 9.25pm on Sunday, 21 June 2026.
According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the collision involved a black Ford Tourneo van and a child.
The young girl was taken to hospital following the incident. Tragically, she later died from her injuries.
Detective Inspector Stewart, from the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit, said officers attended the scene after receiving the report on Sunday evening.
Police confirmed that the driver of the van, a 40-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene.
She remains in custody as enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The Carnagat Road remains closed at its junctions with Springfarm Heights and Stony Hill while police continue their investigation.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage, to come forward.
