Properties Set Alight And Businesses Targeted As Disorder Reported Across Northern Ireland

Several properties have reportedly been set on fire on Lendrick Street in east Belfast tonight, with further reports of vandalism and businesses being targeted in Sandy Row and Ballyclare. The disorder follows serious community tensions after a man was attacked in north Belfast on Monday night. Police have charged a 30-year-old man with attempted murder in connection with that incident.

Properties Reportedly Set On Fire In East Belfast

Several properties on Lendrick Street in east Belfast have reportedly been set on fire tonight, with other nearby properties also said to have been vandalised.

Reports have also come through that residents were evacuated by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service after a house was set ablaze.

Emergency services are understood to be dealing with a number of incidents, and people are being urged to avoid affected areas while police and fire crews respond.

Businesses Targeted In Sandy Row And Ballyclare

There have also been reports of businesses being targeted in Sandy Row and Ballyclare as disorder continues across parts of Northern Ireland.

Disorder Follows Serious North Belfast Attack

The incidents come after a serious attack in north Belfast on Monday night, which has caused widespread anger and concern across the community.

Police said the attack happened in the Kinnaird Avenue area at around 10.30pm on Monday 8 June.

The injured man remains in a serious condition in hospital. According to police, he suffered serious injuries to his eyes, along with slash-wound injuries to his back and face.

A 30-year-old man has since been charged with attempted murder, possession of an article with a blade or point in a public place, and threats to kill. He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 June.

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Police Appeal For Calm

Police and political representatives have appealed for calm, with concerns that tensions and misinformation online could lead to further disorder.

The PSNI has said it is providing as much verified information as possible as the investigation continues.

Members of the public are being asked to avoid affected areas, follow police advice, and allow emergency services to carry out their work safely.
