Child remains critical as Dungannon murder investigation continues

A child remains in a critical condition following an incident at a home on Lisnahull Road in Dungannon where a man was found dead. A woman injured during the incident has been released from hospital. A male arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remains in police custody.

Detectives investigating the Dungannon murder investigation have confirmed that a seriously injured child remains in a critical condition following the discovery of a man’s body at a home in the town.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident on Lisnahull Road.

Police were called to the property at around 11am on Saturday, 29 August.

A man was found dead inside the home, while a seriously injured child and an injured woman were also present.

Child remains in critical condition

Detective Chief Inspector Robinson confirmed on Sunday, 30 August, that the child’s condition remains critical.

The woman sustained injuries that police have described as non-life-threatening. She has since been released from hospital.

The cause of the man’s death has not yet been formally established.

Post-mortem examinations are due to take place as detectives continue their investigation.

Male remains in police custody

A male arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Robinson said police were continuing their enquiries and urged people not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have also sought to reassure the local community that they do not believe there is any ongoing risk.

At this stage, detectives have said they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

DCI Robinson said:

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of those involved.”
