Between Worlds by Carole Rainey

Discover Between Worlds, a new exhibition by artist Carole Rainey marking an important milestone in her creative journey and her return to studio practice after several years.
The exhibition reflects a significant development in Carole’s work as she moves away from Realism and explores the expressive possibilities of Abstract Expressionism. Working mainly with acrylic paint on canvas, she also incorporates collage, layered surfaces and a range of texture-building techniques.
Exploring Memory, Imagination and Abstraction
Carole creates her paintings intuitively through gesture, mark-making and the element of chance. Each piece develops organically, allowing colour, texture and movement to shape the final composition.
The works in Between Worlds exist somewhere between memory and imagination, exploring the space between what is familiar and what is still beginning to emerge.
Writing has also become an important part of Carole’s creative practice. Prose and poetry sometimes appear directly within the artwork or sit alongside the paintings, creating a subtle dialogue between language and image.
Visitors can experience Between Worlds from 21 July until 30 August.
