

President Arthur Homestead in Cullybackey welcomed Paul Roelle from the US Consulate to mark America 250 with a special tree planting in honour of President Chester Alan Arthur.
President Arthur Homestead continues to attract visitors from near and far, celebrating its unique connection between Cullybackey and the United States.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council was delighted to welcome Paul Roelle from the US Consulate on Thursday 27 May for a special visit to the historic site.
The visit formed part of America 250, the celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
To mark the occasion, Paul Roelle, a former Air Force officer, planted a tree in honour of President Chester Alan Arthur, the 21st President of the United States.
There could be no more fitting location than President Arthur Homestead, the ancestral home linked to the Arthur family’s remarkable journey from rural Cullybackey to the American Presidency.
Mayor Jackson Minford then joined Paul, representatives from Buick Memorial Primary School and invited guests for a tour inside the carefully restored cottage.
Inside the homestead, visitors were transported back to the late 18th century.
The tour offered a glimpse into how the Arthur family lived before their family story became part of American history.
The restored cottage remains an important heritage attraction in Mid and East Antrim, offering local people and visitors the chance to explore a fascinating transatlantic connection.
