Woman arrested after 15-minute police pursuit through Portadown, Lurgan and Banbridge

A woman has been arrested following a police pursuit lasting more than 15 minutes through Portadown, Lurgan, Waringstown and Banbridge. Police said the driver travelled at more than twice the speed limit before officers used tactical contact on the A1 near Banbridge.

A woman has been arrested after a police pursuit through Portadown, Lurgan and Banbridge which lasted more than 15 minutes.

Police said the pursuit began in Portadown before continuing through Lurgan, Waringstown and Banbridge.

Driver allegedly travelled at more than twice the speed limit

During the pursuit, police allege the driver travelled at high speed while attempting to evade officers.

At times, the vehicle was allegedly travelling at more than twice the speed limit.

Police also reported that objects were thrown from the vehicle towards pursuing officers during the incident.

Officers from the Road Policing Unit at Mahon Road worked alongside local district officers as they attempted to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion.

Tactical contact used on A1 near Banbridge

Specially trained police pursuit officers eventually made tactical contact with the vehicle on the A1 dual carriageway near Banbridge.

Police said the intervention was necessary because the driver was allegedly attempting to travel the wrong way on the carriageway towards other road users.

The pursuit was then brought to an end.
