Mariners are being advised of planned diving operations at Carrickfergus Harbour next week as part of an underwater survey of a sunken vessel.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Harbours and Marinas team issued Notice to Mariners No. 35 of 2026 on Friday 16 October.

Divers are expected to carry out sub-surface surveys within Carrickfergus Harbour on:

  • Date: Tuesday 20 October 2026
  • Time: 8am to 5pm
  • Location: Carrickfergus Harbour
  • VHF channels: 80 and 16

Restrictions While Divers Are in the Water

Flag Alpha will be displayed throughout the diving operation.

Mariners using the harbour are being asked to follow instructions issued by the dive team.

The notice states that if five short blasts from the dive team’s foghorn are heard, all vessels must immediately stop moving and wait until clearance is given before proceeding.

The Notice to Mariners will automatically cease to apply once the diving work has been completed.

Sunken Vessel Survey

The work involves divers conducting underwater surveys of a sunken vessel within Carrickfergus Harbour.

No further information about the vessel or the reason for the survey was provided in the notice.

Anyone operating a vessel in or around Carrickfergus Harbour during the scheduled period should remain alert and monitor VHF channels 80 and 16.
