Large Fire at Belfast Scrap Metal Site Sees 60 Firefighters Deployed

A major fire has broken out at Clearway Metal Recycling on East Twin Road in Belfast. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service has deployed 60 firefighters, nine pumping appliances, a high-volume pump and an aerial appliance to tackle the blaze. Residents nearby are being urged to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area.


Large Emergency Response Underway at Belfast Scrap Metal Fire

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is currently tackling a significant fire involving a large quantity of scrap metal at Clearway Metal Recycling on East Twin Road in Belfast.

Emergency crews remain at the scene as firefighters work to bring the blaze under control.

According to NIFRS, a total of:

  • 9 pumping appliances
  • 1 aerial appliance
  • 1 high-volume pump
  • 60 firefighters

have been deployed to the incident.

The fire is believed to involve a pile of scrap metal measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres.

High-Volume Pump Being Used to Fight Blaze

Firefighters are using specialist equipment, including a high-volume pump, to transport large amounts of water directly to the fire.

NIFRS confirmed there are currently no reported injuries and all persons have been accounted for.

Operations are expected to continue for a considerable period of time due to the scale of the fire and the materials involved.

Public Advised to Avoid East Twin Road

Members of the public are being urged to stay away from the East Twin Road area while emergency services remain in operation.

Residents nearby have also been advised to:

  • Keep windows closed
  • Keep doors shut
  • Avoid unnecessary travel near the incident
