Belfast City Council Launches Belfast Repair Week 2026

Residents across the city are being encouraged to “Fix it, don’t ditch it!” as Belfast City Council launches Belfast Repair Week 2026, running from 2–8 March.

The week-long programme is packed with hands-on workshops, practical demonstrations and community events aimed at helping people repair everyday items instead of throwing them away.

Supporting a Circular Economy in Belfast

Belfast Repair Week is designed to:

  • Teach practical repair skills
  • Promote local repair businesses and services
  • Reduce household waste
  • Help residents save money

With ongoing climate concerns and rising living costs, more households are choosing to repair items rather than replace them. The initiative highlights how simple repairs can extend the life of everyday products — from bikes and clothing to electronics and furniture.

What’s On During Belfast Repair Week?

A wide range of free and low-cost events will take place across the city in partnership with local organisations, charities and businesses.

Bike Repair Sessions

East Belfast Mission will host drop-in bike repair clinics at:

  • Highfield Community Centre
  • Morton Community Centre
  • Divis Community Centre
  • Knocknagoney Community Centre
  • St George’s Market

These sessions offer practical advice on maintenance and minor repairs to keep bikes road-ready.

Off-Street Stitching

Sue Bamford from Tools for Solidarity will lead a relaxed, slow-fashion inspired stitching session at 2 Royal Avenue, helping participants learn simple clothing repair techniques.

Tech Support – ‘FixIT’ Session

Ignite IT will host a city-centre session at 2 Royal Avenue to assist residents in fixing small gadgets and electronic devices.

International Women’s Day Special Workshop

The Belfast Tool Library, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Resources Network, will host a “Women are fixing it for themselves” workshop on the Shankill Road, marking International Women’s Day.

Pop-Up Repair Café

Activities will continue into the following week with a collaborative pop-up event at Queen’s University Students’ Union.

Repair Services Across Belfast

In addition to workshops, Belfast is home to numerous specialist repair services including:

  • Shoe and watch repair
  • Clothing alterations
  • Furniture refurbishment
  • Upholstery restoration

CastleCourt Shopping Centre will also showcase repair businesses based within the centre during the week.

Community Backing for Waste Reduction

George Gillespie, Community Network Manager at Northern Ireland Resources Network, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the importance of promoting a circular economy and supporting sustainable practices at a community level.

Belfast Repair Week reflects a growing shift towards reuse, sustainability and practical skill-sharing across Northern Ireland.
