The officer was part of a public order policing operation on Wednesday night when a vehicle struck her and dragged her along the road. Road Policing officers from various departments immediately responded to the scene.

The vehicle was quickly intercepted, and the driver was arrested at the scene. He now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving with excess alcohol
  • Failing to stop for police

In custody, the driver provided an evidential breath sample which revealed his blood alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit.

He has since been charged and is due to appear in court.

The injured officer is currently recovering from arm and rib injuries sustained during the incident. PSNI have not released her identity, but colleagues have praised her quick thinking and professionalism in such a dangerous situation.

Appeal for Responsible Driving

This incident serves as another stark reminder of the dangers posed by drink driving on Northern Ireland’s roads.

Police have renewed calls for the public to never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, highlighting the devastating consequences for victims, officers, and the wider community.
