Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has reopened the newly refurbished Bardic Drive play park in Larne, now transformed into an inclusive, accessible, and imaginative space for children of all abilities. The reopening also honoured the memory of Scarlett Rossborough, with heartfelt tributes from friends and family.

A Summer of Fun at Bardic Drive as New Inclusive Play Park Officially Opens

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has officially reopened the Bardic Drive play park in Larne following a major refurbishment, unveiling a vibrant, accessible space designed for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

The transformation is part of the Council’s Play Investment Framework and Out to Play Strategy, which aims to create safer, more inclusive outdoor spaces that spark imagination, challenge, and adventure in young people.

A Park with a Purpose

Designed in collaboration with local residents through a public consultation process, the refurbished play park now reflects the community’s vision for inclusive play. The upgrades ensure that every child, regardless of ability, can enjoy meaningful outdoor experiences.

The reopening also served as a poignant moment to honour the life of Scarlett Rossborough, a beloved member of the local community. The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, was joined by Scarlett’s family at the official ribbon-cutting and artwork unveiling — created by Scarlett’s friends as a tribute to her memory.

Mayor Minford Praises Community Spirit

Mayor Minford remarked:

“It is great to see the completion of this work – such an amazing resource for local families, and I was honoured to be joined by the Rossborough family.
This play park has been refurbished as part of the Council’s Play Investment Framework and Out to Play Strategy, which show just how important play is throughout the Borough.”

Community-Led Fun Day

The reopening was marked with a Fun Day on 20 June 2025, funded through the Larne Area Community Cluster — a Council-facilitated initiative that supports collaboration between community and voluntary organisations. The event brought together local families, volunteers, and stakeholders in a celebration of community spirit and togetherness.

The Larne Area Community Cluster plays a vital role in encouraging local groups to pool resources and deliver long-term benefits for the people of Larne.

Committed to Play for All

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council remains dedicated to enhancing outdoor spaces through annual investments in play parks. All developments are shaped by elected members and public consultation, ensuring each project meets the unique needs of local communities.
