Police Renew Appeal to Find Gary Anderson Who Remains Unlawfully at Large

Police have renewed their appeal to locate 29-year-old Gary Anderson, who remains unlawfully at large after failing to return to prison following temporary release. He was last seen in the Creggan area of Derry/Londonderry on Monday, 14 September. Members of the public are being warned not to approach him.

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information on the whereabouts of Gary Anderson, who remains unlawfully at large after failing to return to prison earlier this week.

The 29-year-old was sentenced in 2023 to 15 years for murder and had been on temporary release from prison on Monday, 14 September.

He was last seen at approximately 11am on Monday in the Eastway area of Creggan, Derry/Londonderry.

Search for Gary Anderson Continues

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said extensive enquiries have been carried out since Anderson failed to return.

These have included:

• Searches
• CCTV enquiries
• Extensive police patrols
• Liaison with An Garda Síochána

Police confirmed on Friday, 18 September, that Anderson had still not been located.

Detective Inspector Gareth Lavery said police were investigating every report received following the original public appeal.

Police have also released a more recent photograph of Anderson as efforts to locate him continue.

Gary Anderson is described as:

• Approximately 5ft 11in tall
• Of slim build
• With brown hair
• Aged 29

Police have made a direct appeal for Anderson to hand himself in.

Public Warned Not to Approach Him

Police are urging anyone who sees Anderson, or knows where he may be, not to approach him directly.

Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the Eastway area of Creggan on Monday morning around the time Anderson was last seen.

Anyone with CCTV, dashcam, doorbell camera footage or other relevant information is being asked to contact police.
