A driver has been remanded in custody after a police pursuit in North Belfast ended when a car crashed into a wall. Police say the man was arrested on suspicion of several offences, including taking a vehicle without permission, being unfit through drink and possession of a knife.
A North Belfast police pursuit ended with a car crashing into a wall after the driver allegedly failed to stop for Road Policing officers on Sunday evening.
According to NI Road Policing and Safety, officers from Steeple Station attempted to stop the vehicle in North Belfast.
Police said the driver failed to stop and a short pursuit followed.
The vehicle subsequently crashed into a wall and the driver was detained.
Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.
These included:
According to the police account, the driver provided a breath sample which was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit.
Police also alleged that before officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the car had been involved in a collision with another vehicle.
The driver is alleged to have left the scene following that collision.
A short time later, Road Policing officers attempted to stop the vehicle before the pursuit and subsequent crash.
NI Road Policing and Safety confirmed that the driver has since been remanded in custody.
He is expected to appear before a court at a later date in connection with the alleged offences.
No further details regarding the driver’s identity or the location of the crash have been released in the police post.
