Mid and East Antrim launches ‘When Everyone Belongs, We Thrive’ inclusivity campaign

Mayor says everyone should have access to opportunities

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Thomas Gordon, said the borough offers many opportunities for people to participate in community, business and town life.

He said:

“Regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or culture we want to ensure everyone can access the opportunities they need.”

Alderman Gordon highlighted accessible Council facilities, inclusive events, community support programmes and equality initiatives.

He also referred to the Council’s Disability Lived Experience Group, which has 12 independent members from across the borough.

The group helps ensure local voices can contribute to the Council’s work around accessibility and inclusion.

Accessible facilities and community programmes highlighted

The Council says it is working to remove barriers and create opportunities for people of all abilities.

Services and measures highlighted as part of the campaign include:

• Changing Places facilities
• Step-free access
• Inclusive customer services
• Accessible information
• Community support programmes
• Inclusive events
• Equality initiatives

The Council says these measures are intended to allow people to access services and activities with greater confidence and dignity.
