A 35-year-old man has been charged with possessing ammunition following a reported street disturbance in Coalisland. Police were called to Maplebrook Hill on Wednesday evening after reports of several people fighting and possible knives. The man is due to appear in court in Dungannon on 9 September.

Man charged after Coalisland disturbance

A 35-year-old man has been charged with possessing ammunition following a reported disturbance in the Maplebrook Hill area of Coalisland.

Police in Dungannon responded to the incident at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, 12 August.

Officers had received a report that several people were involved in a fight in the street.

It was also reported that some of those involved may have been armed with knives.

Police carry out follow-up enquiries in Coalisland

When officers arrived at Maplebrook Hill, no fight was ongoing.

Police said nobody approached officers to report that they had been attacked or that they had witnessed what happened.

However, during follow-up enquiries at a nearby property, officers arrested a man on suspicion of possessing ammunition in suspicious circumstances.

Police said investigations are continuing as officers work to establish exactly what happened during the reported disturbance.

Man due in court in Dungannon

The arrested man, aged 35, has since been charged with the ammunition offence.

He is due to appear before a court in Dungannon on 9 September 2026.

As is standard procedure, the charge will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland (PPS). The PPS is responsible for prosecution decisions in cases investigated by police in Northern Ireland.

Police appeal for witnesses and footage

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the disturbance or who may have footage from the Maplebrook Hill area on Wednesday evening to come forward.
