Schomberg’s Siege of Carrickfergus Re-enactment
Experience the drama of Schomberg’s Siege of Carrickfergus with a spectacular historical re-enactment taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August 2026.
This free family event will bring Carrickfergus’s military history to life with more than 40 re-enactors from across the United Kingdom, all dressed in authentic period costume.
Visitors can expect live cannon and musket firing, historical military encampments and a colourful pageantry parade through the town to meet King William at the pier.
Live Historical Re-enactment
The Siege of Carrickfergus re-enactment will recreate key moments from the historic siege through military displays, period costumes and live-action performances.
Residents and visitors will be able to explore the encampments, meet the re-enactors and learn more about the weapons, uniforms and daily life of soldiers during the period.
Live cannon and musket firing will form part of the event, creating an atmospheric and dramatic experience in the heart of Carrickfergus.
Pageantry Parade
Following the main re-enactment, a pageantry parade will make its way through Carrickfergus to the pier, where the performers will meet King William.
The parade will add to the sense of occasion and provide another opportunity to see the re-enactors in full period dress.
Siege of Carrickfergus Artisan Market
An artisan market featuring 15 speciality producers will also take place as part of the event.
The market will include familiar traders from the Carrickfergus monthly artisan market alongside new local producers.

Aromatherapy oils
Handcrafted homeware
Homemade treats for dogs
Locally produced gifts and food
Family Activities and Entertainment
A wide range of family-friendly activities will be available throughout the day, including:

Important Noise Information
Visitors should be aware that loud cannon and musket firing will take place during the event.
Expected firing times are:
Approximately 12.30pm to 1.30pm or 1.45pm
Approximately 3pm to 3.15pm at the end of the re-enactment
People with sensory sensitivities, young children and dog owners should take this into account when planning their visit.
