Ordinary People Extraordinary History

Ordinary People: Extraordinary History – America 250 Exhibition at Mid-Antrim Museum
Discover the fascinating connections between County Antrim and the founding of the United States at Ordinary People: Extraordinary History, a special historical exhibition at Mid-Antrim Museum in Ballymena.

Developed by Cullybackey Community Partnership as part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council's America 250 programme, the exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence in 1776.

The exhibition explores the remarkable stories of ordinary people from Cullybackey and the wider Ballymena area who emigrated to America during the 18th century, highlighting their contributions to the development of the emerging nation.

Visitors can discover how people from local communities became part of a much larger transatlantic story, exploring the historical connections between Northern Ireland and the United States.

Offering an insight into emigration, local heritage and shared history, Ordinary People: Extraordinary History provides an opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn more about the people who helped shape America's early years.

The exhibition has been supported by USANI250 funding from the Department for Communities.
