Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Gerardine Mulvenna, welcomed volunteers from a number of local ‘In Bloom’ groups to the Braid in Ballymena last week to thank them for all their hard work, beautiful displays and dedication to their local community.

The volunteers, who toil tirelessly in their own areas, are a fantastic help and support to Council. Thanks to their amazing work, the Borough can participate in the annual Ulster In Bloom competition, which recognises the contribution made to keeping towns and villages in tip top condition, making them a welcoming place for visitors and residents.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Gerardine Mulvenna, said: “Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is delighted to recognise the contribution of these fabulous volunteers who have been involved in making our Borough beautiful over many years – taking time to encourage others to get involved and boosting civic pride across MEA.

“I am glad so many were able to join us from Ahoghill, Cullybackey, Glenarm, Islandmagee and Whitehead. The event really shows what ‘In Bloom’ is all about – working to improve our Borough for residents and visitors via clean ups, green ups, biodiversity and community initiatives.”

“It is so important to ensure that the volunteers know how much we appreciate what they do in their own localities so we thought it would be a good idea to organise an informal recognition event to allow the groups to mingle and exchange top tips and hopefully keep up the enthusiasm and commitment for the forthcoming year. I know from talking to the groups, more volunteers would be very welcome so if you are interested in getting involved please contact Council.”
