Shock and Sorrow as Victoria Court Nursing Home Confirms Closure

The Carrickfergus community has been left stunned by news that Victoria Court Nursing Home will permanently close on 4th July 2025. Staff were notified with just two weeks’ notice, sparking heartbreak and outrage among the workforce and families of residents.

The nursing home has been a longstanding care facility in the area, providing vital support and accommodation for elderly residents for years. Its closure will not only displace vulnerable residents but also leave a significant gap in the town’s care infrastructure.

Staff and Families Left Reeling

Workers say they are “heartbroken and upset” by the decision, with many expressing deep concern for both their employment and the wellbeing of the residents they care for.

“To be given only two weeks’ notice is devastating,” said one staff member. “We’ve built bonds with the residents — this isn’t just a job to us, it’s a calling. We’re worried for them and unsure what comes next.”

Families of residents have also voiced concern over the limited time available to find suitable alternative care arrangements, calling the move “disrespectful and distressing.”

A Major Loss for the Community

The closure is being described as a huge loss to the Carrickfergus community, with many questioning how the town will cope with the sudden removal of such an essential facility.

Local councillors and community advocates are calling for immediate support and intervention to ensure residents are relocated safely and staff receive the assistance they need.

Ongoing Concerns

As of now, the reasons behind the closure remain unclear, and local authorities have yet to make a formal statement. The situation continues to develop, and families, staff, and the wider public are demanding answers and action.
