Police are reviewing evidence following disorder linked to a planned parade in east Belfast on Saturday night. Two fast food restaurants in the Connswater area were forced to close after groups of young people gathered, causing damage and engaging in anti-social behaviour. Officers say arrests are expected following a review by the PSNI Public Order Evidence Team.

Evidence to Be Reviewed Following East Belfast Disorder

Police are reviewing evidence after disorder broke out in east Belfast following a planned parade on Saturday evening, 9 May.

Officers were on duty in the Newtownards Road area during the event, which police said passed off largely peacefully. However, a number of incidents involving anti-social behaviour and altercations were later reported.

Fast Food Restaurants Forced to Close

According to the PSNI, two fast food restaurants in the Connswater area were forced to close after large groups of young people gathered nearby.

Police said some individuals engaged in disorderly behaviour and one restaurant window was smashed during the incidents.

Chief Inspector Robinson said officers attended the scene quickly and dispersed crowds before remaining in the area to help restore calm.

PSNI Public Order Team Reviewing Evidence

The PSNI confirmed that enquiries into reports of criminal damage and assault are continuing.

Additional evidence gathered during the incidents will now be reviewed by the police Public Order Evidence Team.

Chief Inspector Robinson warned that arrests are expected for those identified as being involved.

Police Warning Following East Belfast Disorder

Police have also urged parents and guardians to speak with young people about their behaviour and whereabouts.

The PSNI warned that reckless actions during incidents like these could easily result in serious injuries.
