The Douglas Mawson is a brand-new, purpose-built expedition vessel that joined the fleet of Aurora Expeditions in 2025. Named after the renowned Australian geologist and explorer Douglas Mawson, the ship reflects his spirit of discovery and is specifically designed for immersive, off-ship exploration in some of the world’s most remote destinations. Engineered for modern expedition travel, the vessel features the advanced Ulstein X-BOW® design, delivering improved fuel efficiency, enhanced stability, and a smoother sailing experience—even in challenging conditions. With a capacity of approximately 154 guests, the ship offers an intimate and comfortable journey focused on adventure and discovery. Onboard, guests can enjoy a high-end interior experience with a wide range of cabin options, including single cabins. Facilities include two restaurants, two bars, a heated outdoor pool, Jacuzzis, a gym, and a sauna. The ship also features a dedicated lecture theatre, Citizen Science Centre, and multiple observation areas, ensuring both education and engagement throughout the voyage.
