Cliftonville Ladies Maintain Women’s Premiership Lead

Cliftonville Ladies strengthened their position at the top of the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership with an impressive 8-0 away victory over Larne Women.

The Reds took control during the first half.

Toni-Leigh Finnegan, Lucy Kelly, Aoibhe O’Neill and Charlotte Havern all scored before the interval.

Cliftonville continued to dominate after the restart.

Kirsty McGuinness, Louise McDaniel, Victoria Carleton and Lydia Thompson each added a goal as the league leaders completed a comprehensive victory.

The result leaves Cliftonville on 27 points from ten matches.

Cora Chambers Hat-Trick Helps Linfield to 6-1 Win

Linfield Women also kept their title challenge firmly on track with a 6-1 victory away to Lisburn Ladies.

Cora Chambers was the standout performer during the opening period, completing a first-half hat-trick to put the Blues in a commanding position.

Eve Reilly scored twice for Linfield, while Sophie McKnight also found the net.

Mea Mezza pulled one back for Lisburn Ladies during the second half, but it proved only a consolation.

Linfield now have 22 points from nine matches, keeping them within five points of Cliftonville with a game in hand.

Glentoran Women Beat Crusaders Strikers 5-1

Glentoran Women returned to winning ways with a convincing 5-1 victory against Crusaders Strikers at the Blanchflower Stadium.

Jessica Foy opened the scoring before Naomi McLaughlin produced a superb curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The goal was McLaughlin’s first for the club.

Nadene Caldwell then added another eye-catching finish with a long-range strike.

Mia Moore was also on the scoresheet for the Glens.

Michelle McDaid found the net for Crusaders Strikers, but McLaughlin struck again to complete her brace and round off the 5-1 victory.

Glentoran also sit on 22 points from nine games, level with Linfield.

Women’s Premiership Title Race Heats Up

The results leave the top of the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership tightly contested.

Cliftonville hold a five-point advantage, although both Linfield and Glentoran have played one fewer match.

The standings among the leading three are:

• Cliftonville Ladies: 27 points from 10 games
• Linfield Women: 22 points from 9 games
• Glentoran Women: 22 points from 9 games

That makes Monday night’s meeting between Linfield and Cliftonville particularly important in the developing title race.

Derry City and Lisburn Rangers Meet on Sunday

Women’s Premiership action continues on Sunday, 9 August, when Derry City Women welcome Lisburn Rangers to the Brandywell.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3.30pm.

Then, on Monday evening, two of the leading title contenders face each other.

Linfield Women welcome league leaders Cliftonville Ladies to Midgley Park, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

A Linfield victory would significantly reduce Cliftonville’s advantage, while another win for the Reds would strengthen their position at the top.
