Belfast city centre has recorded more than 900,000 instances of footfall since Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann began on Sunday, according to figures released by Belfast One Business Improvement District.
The latest data shows 900,020 recorded movements through the city centre retail core between Sunday 2 August and Thursday 6 August.
The figure has already passed the 800,000 visitors originally anticipated across the festival week by organisers Belfast City Council, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and Ards CCÉ.
However, Belfast One has stressed that its figures should not be interpreted as 900,020 individual visitors.
The data comes from six cameras and sensors located around Royal Avenue, Donegall Place, Ann Street, Corn Market, Fountain Street and Castle Street. Someone walking past several sensors, or the same sensor more than once, may therefore be counted multiple times.

Important: These figures reflect recorded footfall rather than unique visitors. The same person may be counted more than once if they pass multiple sensors, or the same sensor several times.
For comparison, Belfast One recorded 537,921 instances of footfall during the equivalent five-day period in 2025.
That means recorded footfall in the city core was approximately 67% higher than during the same period last year.
All-Ireland Fleadh competitions underway in Belfast
The latest figures come as the prestigious All-Ireland Fleadh competitions get underway across Belfast.
Competitors are battling it out in traditional music, song, dance and language categories at venues including:
- Belfast Waterfront Hall
- Assembly Buildings
- The MAC
- Ulster University
The competitions take place across three days and traditionally form one of the busiest parts of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

More than one million Translink journeys recorded
Organisers are reminding anyone travelling into Belfast during the final weekend to plan ahead, allow extra time and expect public transport services to be busy.
More than one million passenger journeys have already been made across the Translink network during the first five days of the Fleadh.
A special timetable is operating over the weekend, with significantly enhanced capacity and additional services.
These include late-night services and dedicated transport arrangements for people attending the festival.
Anyone planning to use public transport can check the latest information on the Translink Fleadh Cheoil travel page.
Temporary changes to some Belfast services are also in operation. These can be checked through Translink’s Fleadh service adjustments.
Belfast Fleadh Park and Ride information
Three official Park and Ride sites are operating for Fleadh visitors:
- Eikon Exhibition Centre, Sprucefield – near the M1
- Giant’s Park – near the M2
- Belfast Harbour – near the M3
Parking costs £10 per vehicle per day.
Free and regular shuttle buses run from the Park and Ride sites into Belfast city centre.
Services from Eikon Exhibition Centre travel to Belfast Grand Central Station, while services from Giant’s Park and Belfast Harbour travel to Laganside Bus Centre.

Important note on the 900,000 figure
The figure of 900,020 represents recorded footfall and not 900,020 unique visitors.
Belfast One’s monitoring system counts movements past six sensors within the city centre.
As a result, one person could potentially be recorded several times while moving around Belfast.
The figures are nevertheless useful for comparing activity with previous days and years and show a substantial increase in city centre footfall during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
