A dog was shot by police in Newtownards after it reportedly attacked a man and a woman on Thursday evening, April 3.
The incident took place in the Rathmullan Drive area, where officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded to reports of a dog attack. The injured man and woman received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
A PSNI spokesperson stated:
“Police attended a property in the Rathmullan Drive area of Newtownards on Thursday, 3rd April, following a report that a dog attacked a man and a woman.
“The man and woman were given first aid for their injuries at the scene before being conveyed to hospital. The dog was destroyed by specially trained officers due to the risk to the public.
“As is normal procedure, the Office of the Police Ombudsman has been informed.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
