As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, police in Derry City & Strabane are urging the public to plan ahead and stay safe while celebrating.

Traffic & Travel Advice for St. Patrick’s Day

With large crowds expected at parades and events, Superintendent Pete Brannigan advised:

“Due to the size and routes of the parades in Derry and Strabane, there will be significant traffic disruption. We encourage everyone to plan ahead, leave extra time for travel, and park legally and safely.”

Stay Safe While Celebrating

Superintendent Brannigan reminded revelers to be aware of their surroundings, especially at night:

  • Visible Police Presence: Officers will be on patrol across the district.
  • ‘Ask for Angela’ Scheme: If you feel unsafe in a licensed venue, asking for ‘Angela’ will discreetly alert staff, who can assist.
  • Safe Travel Home: Plan ahead using public transport, taxis, or a designated driver.
  • Avoid the ‘Fatal Five’:
    • Don’t drink and drive
    • Slow down
    • Drive carefully
    • Wear your seat belt
    • Stay off your phone
