The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team has identified Colin Prime, a serving police officer, as the victim of a deadly assault in south Belfast. Mr. Prime, who was 41 years old, was off duty at the time of the incident. According to Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin, the attack occurred in the early hours of January 29, when Colin was waiting for a ride in a car park adjacent to a licensed venue.
Three men allegedly approached Colin and his friend, resulting in a confrontation that spilled out onto the Malone Road at the intersection of Eglantine Avenue. “I can confirm that Colin’s occupation as a police officer had no bearing on the attack,” Griffin said, appealing to anyone with information about the case to contact the authorities. Three individuals arrested in connection with the attack remain on police bail.
Detective Inspector Griffin urged anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly taxi drivers, to check their dashcam footage for relevant information. Contact the police at 101, quoting reference number 1297 of 16/02/23, or make a report online via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. Anonymous information can be given to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.
