Police from the Terrorism Investigation Unit have made arrests of two men, aged 38 and 47, in Derry/Londonderry on Tuesday, February 7th, under the Terrorism Act. The suspects are currently being held at the Musgrave Police Station in Belfast for further questioning.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the actions of the New IRA group, including a security incident that occurred in the Fahan Street area of Derry/Londonderry on March 14th, 2022. During the incident, authorities discovered and removed components of a viable explosive device, including a timer power unit and three pipe bombs.
Detective Inspector O’Flaherty stated that the police are aware of the potential impact their operations may have on the community and aim to carry out their duties in a manner that maximizes safety and minimizes disruption. He also encouraged anyone with information or concerns about illegal activities to contact the police by calling 101 or by providing information anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or through their website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
