Beginner Navigation and Hill Skills Course
Learn the essential skills needed to navigate safely and confidently in the mountains on this practical one-day navigation and hill skills course.
The course is ideal for complete beginners, as well as anyone who has previous experience with maps and navigation but would like to refresh or update their skills.
What the Course Covers
The day begins with a short indoor introduction covering the basics of:
Understanding maps
Route planning
Navigation techniques
Essential hill safety
Preparing for the mountain environment
Participants will then head out onto the hills for a full practical session, putting these skills into use with guidance from experienced instructors.
Practical Mountain Training
Most of the day is spent outdoors, giving participants plenty of hands-on experience with navigation and the wider hill skills needed to stay safe in mountain terrain.
The course is designed to provide a strong foundation for anyone who wants to become more confident planning routes, reading maps and navigating independently in the hills.
No advanced navigation experience is required.
