Dungannon murder investigation launched after man found dead and child seriously injured

Police have launched a Dungannon murder investigation after a man was found dead alongside a seriously injured child at a property in the Lisnahull Road area on Saturday, 29 August.

A male has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in police custody.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have launched a Dungannon murder investigation following a serious incident at a house in the Lisnahull Road area.

Police confirmed that a man was found dead alongside a seriously injured child on Saturday morning, 29 August.

A male was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in police custody.

The PSNI has not, at the time of publication, officially released the age of the arrested male.

Young girl taken to Belfast children’s hospital

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received an emergency call shortly after 11am.

A significant emergency response was sent to the scene, including a helicopter crew, three emergency crews, an advanced care paramedic, two ambulance officers and a Hazardous Area Response Team.

One patient was taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

Media reports have described the injured child as a young girl and reported that she is the daughter of the man who died.

It has also been reported that the person arrested is a teenage boy.

These details have not yet been included in the PSNI’s official statement.

Woman also reportedly injured

It has also been reported that a woman was injured during the incident.

Reports suggest the alarm was raised after a neighbour heard a woman inside the property screaming for help.

These circumstances have not yet been formally confirmed by police.
