Police Investigate Death of Man Following Car Fire in Portadown

Police are investigating after a man was found dead inside a vehicle following a car fire in Portadown on Saturday night. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Police are investigating the death of a man following a car fire in Portadown on Saturday evening, 8 August.

Officers received a report at around 10pm that a vehicle was on fire in the Harford Street area of Portadown.

Man Found Dead Inside Vehicle in Portadown

Police attended the scene alongside crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the fire.

Ammunition Technical Officers were also tasked to the scene to carry out relevant enquiries.

Police have confirmed that there is no risk to the public.

Chief Inspector Tierney said significant damage was caused to the vehicle.

A number of windows at a neighbouring property were also smashed, while scorch damage was observed at the property.

Sadly, the body of a man was found inside the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Post-Mortem Examination to Determine Cause of Death

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine the man’s cause of death.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Enquiries are also continuing to establish what caused the car fire in Portadown.

At this stage, police have not stated what caused the fire or indicated whether the man’s death is being treated as suspicious.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the Harford Street area at the time and witnessed what happened to come forward.
