The Police Service of Northern Ireland has reported a reduction in disorder overnight, with a calmer situation across many areas on Thursday night. However, police confirmed three arrests, an arson attack in north Belfast, race-hate graffiti in east Belfast, and continued patrols over the weekend.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland has confirmed there was a reduction in disorder overnight on Thursday, 11 June, following several nights of unrest across parts of Northern Ireland.
Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson said officers continued their heightened presence in local communities, with a focus on engagement and de-escalation.
He said the situation was “much calmer” than in recent days. However, police confirmed that a policing operation will remain in place over the weekend to help maintain public order.
ACC Henderson said: “Our heightened presence in our local communities and engagement to de-escalate violence continued last night. Thankfully, the situation was much calmer than we have seen in recent days. Our policing operation will remain over the weekend to ensure public order is maintained.”
Police said there were peaceful protests at a number of locations, including Newtownabbey.
According to the PSNI, officers engaged with those taking part and supported their right to express their views lawfully.
No significant incidents of public disorder were reported at those peaceful protests.
ACC Henderson added: “There were peaceful protests last night at a number of locations, including Newtownabbey, with no significant incidents of public disorder. Officers engaged with participants supporting their right to express their views lawfully.”

Police also received reports of race-hate graffiti in the Dee Street and Newtownards Road areas of east Belfast.
ACC Henderson said there have now been 19 arrests so far this week, with people already charged to court.
