Ballyclare, Co Antrim – Police have identified the man who tragically died in a road traffic collision in Ballyclare on Saturday night as Stephen Carmichael, a 33-year-old local resident. This incident marks the third fatality on Northern Ireland’s roads over a devastating weekend.

Mr. Carmichael was pronounced dead at the scene following the single-vehicle accident, which occurred shortly before midnight on Ballyrobert Road. His black Volkswagen was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

The Collision Investigation Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. They are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their inquiries. Individuals with relevant information, including dash-cam or mobile phone footage, are urged to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 2011 of 25/05/24. The road has since reopened to traffic.

This fatality is part of a tragic series of events on Northern Ireland’s roads this weekend. On Friday night, a man in his 60s died following a collision in Poyntzpass. In a separate incident in the early hours of Saturday, 17-year-old Jack Morrow from Rathfriland lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Co Down. Additionally, a 19-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries from the Rathfriland accident.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene of Mr. Carmichael’s crash, working through the night to manage the situation and investigate the cause.

As the community of Ballyclare mourns the loss of Stephen Carmichael, police continue to seek answers and ensure road safety. The recent string of fatalities serves as a somber reminder of the dangers on the roads and the importance of vigilance and safety for all drivers.
