

A mass shooting in the small northern Canadian community of Tumbler Ridge has left 10 people dead, including the suspected gunwoman, and at least 27 others injured, authorities have confirmed.
The attack began at approximately 1:20pm local time at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, which serves students in Grades 7 to 12. Police were alerted to reports of an active shooter inside the school building.

At least 27 people were injured, several of them seriously. Some victims were airlifted to larger regional hospitals for emergency treatment.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) initially described the suspect during the active alert as a female wearing a dress with brown hair.
Investigators have stated they believe they have identified the suspect but have not publicly released her name as the investigation continues.
Police have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public and that no additional suspects are being sought.
Officers reportedly arrived at the school within minutes of the first emergency call. An emergency alert was issued advising residents to shelter in place while the situation unfolded.
Students and staff followed lockdown procedures, with some classrooms barricaded until police secured the building.
Tumbler Ridge is a remote community of approximately 2,400 residents. Schools in the area, including the secondary and elementary schools, have been closed for the remainder of the week.
Grief counselling and mental health support services have been made available to students, staff, and families.
Canadian leaders, including the Prime Minister and British Columbia’s Premier, have expressed condolences to the victims’ families and described the attack as a national tragedy.
