A brutal stabbing in London’s bustling Leicester Square has left an 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman seriously injured. The incident occurred in one of the capital’s busiest tourist areas, sparking shock and concern among locals and visitors alike.
According to a statement posted by the Metropolitan Police on X, formerly Twitter, a man has been arrested in connection with the attack and is currently in custody. The police have confirmed that they do not believe there are any further suspects at large.
Emergency services were quick to respond to the scene. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived promptly and transported both victims to a major trauma center. At this time, the conditions of the victims remain unclear.
The attack unfolded near the Lego store on Swiss Court, just off Leicester Square. Abdullah, a 29-year-old employee at TWG Tea in Leicester Square, was one of the first to intervene. Recounting the harrowing experience to the BBC, he described hearing a scream that prompted him to rush outside.
“I saw a man with a knife, and without thinking, I just jumped on him,” Abdullah explained. “I grabbed his hand and forced him to the ground, kicking the knife away.” Other bystanders quickly joined in to help restrain the attacker until police arrived. Abdullah, visibly shaken by the ordeal, expressed his shock and disbelief: “It’s horrible to see something like this, especially involving a child.”
In the immediate aftermath, several police officers were seen securing the area, with blue and white tape cordoning off the crime scene. Disturbing remnants of the attack, including a blood-stained napkin, a black cap, and a green lighter, were visible on the ground, adding to the grim atmosphere. A small crowd of onlookers gathered at a distance, drawn by the commotion.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed they were alerted to the stabbing at 11:36 AM BST. A spokesperson detailed the swift response: “We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer, along with members of our tactical response unit. The victims were treated at the scene before being transported to a major trauma center.”
