Police Confirm Name of Man Who Died Following Coalisland Collision

Police have confirmed the identity of a man who died following a serious collision in Coalisland, County Tyrone, on Wednesday, 28 January 2026.

The deceased has been named as 71-year-old Gerard Rafferty, known as “Jock”, who was from the local Coalisland area.

Emergency Services Attended Scene on Moor Road

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said officers received a report at approximately 12.20pm that a vehicle had crashed into a shop premises on Moor Road, striking a member of the public.

Emergency responders from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene alongside police.

Despite their efforts, Mr Rafferty sadly passed away a short time later.

Road Closures Remain in Place

Police have confirmed that Moor Road remains closed to all road users between:

  • Washingbay Road
  • Gortgonis Road

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes while enquiries continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Chief Inspector Simpson from the Collision Investigation Unit said investigations are ongoing and issued an appeal to the public.

Police are asking anyone who:

  • Witnessed the collision
  • Has dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage
  • Was in the Moor Road area around the time of the incident

to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 651 of 28/01/26.

Community Impact

The incident has caused shock within the local community, with tributes expected for Mr Rafferty, who was well known in the Coalisland area.
