Detectives from the Terrorism Investigation Unit, with the assistance of local officers, have conducted a house search in the Ardoyne area of North Belfast on Friday, February 17. The search was conducted in relation to alleged offences against Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
According to Detective Inspector Dane, the investigation was triggered by information received that some people were wearing clothing associated with a proscribed organization, the Provisional IRA. The individuals were reportedly part of a funeral cortege that was walking on a public street in North Belfast on Monday, December 26, 2022. A number of items were seized for examination during the search conducted on Friday morning.
Detective Inspector Dane emphasized that the Police Service of Northern Ireland is committed to investigating and disrupting criminal activities of all individuals and groups, including organized crime, paramilitary and terrorist groups, regardless of their location, background, religion, or political affiliation. The support of local communities is acknowledged and encouraged to report any information or concerns to the police on 101.
