

A man has been arrested under the Terrorism Act as part of an ongoing police investigation into reports of threats made against elected representatives in the Newry, Mourne and Down area.
Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the arrest followed a search operation in the Poyntzpass area on Tuesday, 3 February 2026.
The man, aged 62, was arrested by officers from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch. He remains in police custody and is currently assisting with enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Fenton said the arrest is directly connected to an investigation into reported threats made towards elected representatives within the Newry, Mourne and Down council area.
He confirmed that this is the third arrest made as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police say officers from the Serious Crime Branch and Local Policing teams in Newry, Mourne and Down are continuing to work closely together.
