Tre-Eco Named as Lord Mayor’s Final Charity of the Year

The Tre-Eco Belfast social enterprise has been named as one of the final civic charities for the 2025/2026 term by Belfast’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Tracy Kelly.

The announcement highlights the organisation’s work in environmental regeneration and youth development, supporting young people through training opportunities and community projects in South Belfast.

Tre-Eco focuses on giving volunteers practical skills, helping them build confidence while preparing for future employment.

Supporting Young People with Skills and Confidence

The Tre-Eco Belfast social enterprise supports young volunteers by offering hands-on training in a range of practical skills, including:

  • Basic building work
  • Plastering
  • Power washing
  • Community clean-up projects

These opportunities are designed to help participants develop real-world experience and improve their prospects in the job market.

By combining environmental work with vocational training, Tre-Eco helps young people build confidence while making a positive difference in their local community.

Lord Mayor Praises Tre-Eco’s Community Impact

Councillor Tracy Kelly met with representatives from Tre-Eco and praised the organisation for its role in supporting young people and improving the local environment.

She said:

“It is my absolute pleasure to announce Tre-Eco as one of my civic charities for my term as First Citizen of Belfast – a social enterprise very close to my heart.

This amazing facility is part of the fabric of this close-knit community in South Belfast and where I have lived all my life.

Tre-Eco is more than a social enterprise. It is a safe haven – creating a sustainable environment by engaging young people, tackling local dereliction and providing future learning and development qualifications.”

She added that connecting young people with opportunities in emerging job markets remains one of her priorities during her mayoral term.

A Boost for Community Regeneration Projects

Being selected as a civic charity means the Tre-Eco Belfast social enterprise will receive increased visibility and support across the city.

This recognition will help the organisation expand its work in:

  • Community regeneration projects
  • Environmental improvement initiatives
  • Skills training for young volunteers

The programme also helps highlight the role social enterprises play in strengthening communities and creating pathways to employment.

Supporting Charities Across Belfast

Each year, Belfast’s First Citizen selects several charities to support throughout their term.

Additional organisations are also chosen by the Deputy Lord Mayor and the High Sheriff, helping raise awareness and provide valuable support to charities across the city.

This civic initiative helps strengthen Belfast’s voluntary and community sector by highlighting organisations making a real difference at the grassroots level.
