Four Gunshots Fired at Sammy Wilson’s DUP Constituency Office: ‘I Will Not Be Intimidated’

DUP election candidate Sammy Wilson has declared he will not be intimidated following a shooting at his Carrickfergus office. The office, which is manned by a single woman, was targeted with four gunshots sometime during the night.

Mr. Wilson, who is seeking to retain his Westminster seat in East Antrim, said he has no indication of who might be responsible or why the attack occurred. He told the Belfast Telegraph, “Four shots were fired. They shattered the glass in the window. It happened sometime during the middle of the night. It was clear the office was targeted as it was only mine, not any of the neighboring buildings.”

Expressing concern for his staff, he added, “It is just a bit worrying. It is manned by a woman who is there by herself, and at election time, I usually won’t be in the office too often. This is someone who is there to help constituents. There is another member of staff employed in the office as well. They are both very tough women and not easily scared, but you do have to have concerns for your staff, especially when shots are fired.”

Mr. Wilson confirmed that the PSNI is on the scene and has started investigations. “We aren’t sure exactly what time it happened. Obviously, the police will have to look through CCTV and conduct thorough investigations. It is always difficult to identify who would have the motive to carry out such an attack,” he said. “You hope you are past those days. Hopefully, the police find out who was responsible.”
