Former Carrickfergus College Science Teacher, Bill Rafferty, Passes Away

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mr. Bill Rafferty, a beloved former science teacher at Carrickfergus College. Bill passed away peacefully on the 17th of January 2025 at Antrim Care Home, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Rafferty was known for his passion for teaching, his warmth, and his ability to make science both engaging and fun for his students. Many will fondly remember the laughter-filled lessons and the beloved animal house in his classroom, which brought joy to so many during their school years.

He was a loving and devoted husband to Angela, a much-loved father to Neal, Sarel, and Llenore, father-in-law to John and Colin, and a proud grandfather to Tom, Eidann, Georgia, Campbell, and Hedera. Bill will also be deeply missed by his siblings Greta, Jim (and wife Hilary), and his brother-in-law Denis (and wife Isobel), as well as the wider family circle.

A Service of Thanksgiving for Bill’s life will be held at **St. John’s Church of Ireland, Islandmagee, on Thursday 23rd January 2025 at 1.30 p.m.**, followed by interment at Islandmagee New Cemetery.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in lieu, if desired, can be made to N.I. Air Ambulance through S & J Irvine Funeral Directors, Carrickfergus.

Bill Rafferty will forever be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of his students and loved ones. Silent thoughts of times together hold memories that will last forever.

Rest in peace, Mr. Rafferty.
