Elon Musk Nominated for 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for Free Speech Advocacy

Billionaire Elon Musk has been officially nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his support for free speech.

The nomination was submitted by Branko Grims, a European Parliament member from Slovenia, who praised Musk’s efforts in defending the fundamental human right of freedom of speech.

Nomination Details

Grims shared a screenshot of the confirmation email from the Norwegian Nobel Committee, confirming the submission.

He expressed his gratitude to co-proposers and supporters, stating:

“The proposal that Mr. Elon Musk, for his consistent support for the fundamental human right of freedom of speech and thus for peace, receives the Nobel Peace Prize 2025, was successfully submitted today.”

Previous Calls for Musk’s Nobel Prize

This is not the first time Musk has been proposed for the prestigious award:

  • In December 2024, Grims first suggested that Musk deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for his commitment to free speech.
  • In February 2024, Marius Nilsen, a Norwegian Member of Parliament, also nominated Musk, citing his defense of dialogue, free speech, and global connectivity.

Why Musk?

Supporters argue that Musk has contributed to global dialogue and communication by ensuring freedom of speech on social media platforms and through technological advancements in companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink.

Nilsen previously stated that Musk’s efforts have “made the world a more connected and safer place”, especially in an increasingly polarized world.

What’s Next?

The Norwegian Nobel Committee will now consider Musk’s nomination alongside other candidates before announcing the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize later in the year.
