Detectives in Newtownards have launched an appeal for information following a shooting incident that took place in The Meadows area on the evening of February 18th. According to a statement by Superintendent Johnston McDowell, shots were fired through the front door of a property before a group of masked men entered and assaulted the male occupant. The man sustained serious injuries, while the perpetrators fled the scene.
In a statement to the press, McDowell condemned the attack as “horrific violence” and reassured the public that all measures will be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. The police are appealing to anyone who was in The Meadows area at the time and witnessed any suspicious activity to come forward.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are also seeking any CCTV footage or other information that could assist with the case. Members of the public are urged to contact the police on 101 and quote reference number 2007 of 18/02/23 if they have any information.
This incident has caused shock and concern in the Newtownards community, with local residents expressing their support for the victim and their family. The police have also called on the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent further incidents of violence.
