The Northern Ireland music scene is rallying around one of its own as Fergie Freeman, a well-known DJ from Co Down, confronts life-changing circumstances following a stroke at the age of 47.

Renowned for his vibrant personality and infectious laughter, Fergie’s world was abruptly altered when he suffered a stroke, resulting in a brain injury that robbed him of his ability to speak and utilize his right arm and hand. The once-active DJ now finds himself confined to a care home, unable to stand unaided, and facing a future of profound challenges.

Despite the daunting obstacles before him, Fergie remains cherished by his community, with fond memories of his days spinning records at iconic venues such as Exit15, Kilwaughter House, Carlingford Bay, and Planet Love. His absence from the DJ circuit has left a void felt by many, prompting friends and colleagues to come together in a remarkable display of support.

On May 4, 30 DJs from across the region will converge for a fundraising event aptly named ‘A Night of Legends’, held at the Skylite Rooms in Warrenpoint. Organized by Fergie’s close friends Garret and James McGivern, the event aims to unite the DJ community in a show of solidarity for their beloved friend.

Reflecting on Fergie’s impact, Garret shared, “He was a massive DJ back in the day, playing at some of the most memorable venues in Northern Ireland. His infectious energy and uplifting music always lit up the dance floor.”

However, Fergie’s journey since his stroke has been marked by daily challenges, including the onset of seizures. Garret expressed the community’s desire to offer tangible support, stating, “He is not in a good place, and it is hard because he was such a big character. We just wanted to come together to do something.”

Proceeds from ‘A Night of Legends’ will be dedicated to Fergie’s ongoing rehabilitation, care, and therapy needs. The event represents a testament to the resilience and compassion of Northern Ireland’s music community, rallying around one of its own in a time of need.

As Fergie continues his battle, his friends and supporters remain steadfast in their commitment to easing his burdens and ensuring he receives the care and support he deserves. Through their collective efforts, they hope to provide comfort and relief to a cherished friend and colleague during his time of struggle.
