

Police are appealing for information after a car was deliberately set on fire in Carrickfergus late on Saturday night (14 March 2026). The incident happened in the Minorca Avenue area around 10:45pm, with the vehicle set alight beside a gas box which was badly damaged. Officers attended the scene alongside crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who worked to extinguish the blaze.
The vehicle had been set alight directly beside a gas box, which sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire.
The proximity of the burning vehicle to the gas installation has raised concerns about the potential risk posed by the incident.
Police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire.
