Arrest follows report of man armed with machete in east Belfast

Police in east Belfast have arrested a man following a report of a man with a machete in the Devon Drive area of the city on Thursday, 6th February.

Sergeant McCartney said: “Just before 10.10pm, we received a report that two men, one of whom was armed with a machete, were fighting in the street in the Devon Drive area.

“An Armed Response Unit was dispatched to the scene alongside local policing officers. On arrival, a man aged in his 20s was found with serious injuries to his hands.

“A search of the property was carried out and a number of items were seized for examination.

“The occupant of the property, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indicatable offence, possessing ammunition in suspicious circumstances and a number of drug possession charges.

“He remains in police custody at this time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have any information relevant to the investigation, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1745 of 06/02/25.”
