Police remain at a property on Empire Street, Belfast, following a security alert on Wednesday. The scene has been scaled down, and evacuated residents have been allowed to return home after a suspicious object—believed to be an improvised grenade—was made safe and removed by the Army Technical Officers (ATO).
A man in his 50s, who was arrested as part of the investigation, remains in custody as police enquiries continue.
Chief Inspector Mark Conway stated: “Our investigation is still in its early stages. However, we are aware of inaccurate online speculation regarding this incident, and we urge the public not to rely on such sources for information.”
He also expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and cooperation during the public safety operation.
Police have confirmed that further updates will be provided in due course.
