The festival kicks off on Friday, August 2nd, at the Town Hall with a performance by the Grampian Orchestra, culminating in an outdoor show by Belfast group Anna’s Number at Joymount Carpark. There will also be a variety of performances and events to enjoy by local artists, featuring entertainment from Deja Vu Promotions, lunchtime recitals, live music, and workshops showcasing Carrickfergus’ s very own town’s talents and skills.
Part funded through the Department for Communities MEA Revitalising Town Centres project with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, ‘Around the Town’ is presented by Positive Carrickfergus as part of their ongoing National Lottery funded Arts project and is the direct result of a group of musicians and event planners meeting monthly to explore what a more connected music and arts community in Carrickfergus might look like and how the Town Hall could potentially develop into a community-led arts and culture centre.
Positive Carrickfergus Creative Producer Lynn McKenzie said, “We are dedicated to working with others to revitalise our town centre and supporting local artists; the festival is a great example of this with a collective of musicians and event organisers working together to plan and host the festival events. Festivals can take significant work, but this dedicated and passionate group of people have shown that there is an appetite and skills based locally to make this a success. We are grateful to both Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and the Department for Communities for their financial support to run the festival.”
Communities Minister, Gordon Lyons said,” I am pleased to see how my department’s funding contribution has made a real and positive difference towards revitalising Carrickfergus through this exciting music festival. The exceptional local musicians and artists on show throughout the week will undoubtedly showcase the town as a creative place to visit, instilling civic pride and increasing footfall for all local businesses.”
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Beth Adger, adds: “The festival week will be a great addition to the summer calendar of events, offering something for everyone to enjoy – while also supporting local businesses and bringing locals and visitors into the town centre. I truly commend Positive Carrickfergus and the local artists for making this event happen.”
