Man, 41, Charged With Murder of Robert Lawlor in North Belfast

A 41-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Robert Lawlor, who was shot dead in north Belfast in April 2020.

The man was arrested in Liverpool on Wednesday 23 September and later transported to Northern Ireland for questioning.

He has also been charged with a firearms offence and is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Friday 25 September.

A 41-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Robert Lawlor, more than six years after he was shot dead in north Belfast.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team confirmed the charge on Thursday 24 September.

Mr Lawlor was shot dead outside a house in Etna Drive, north Belfast, on 4 April 2020.

Man Arrested in Liverpool

The 41-year-old was arrested in Liverpool on Wednesday 23 September as part of the murder investigation.

According to the PSNI, the arrest was carried out by Merseyside Police before the man was transported to Northern Ireland for questioning.

He has now been charged with:

• Murder
• Possession of a firearm or ammunition with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property

Due Before Belfast Magistrates’ Court

The man is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Friday 25 September.

As is standard procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The case remains before the courts, and the defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.
