Belfast City Hospital entrance closed following sudden death

The Lisburn Road entrance to Belfast City Hospital has been closed this afternoon following a sudden death at the hospital site. Police have advised patients and visitors to use the Donegall Road entrance instead.

An entrance to Belfast City Hospital has been closed this afternoon, Friday 11 September, as emergency services deal with a sudden death at the site.

The incident is understood to have happened close to the Windsor House area of the hospital at around midday.

The area has been closed to both vehicles and pedestrians accessing the hospital from the Lisburn Road.

PSNI confirms Belfast City Hospital entrance closure

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said:

“Road users and those attending Belfast City Hospital are advised that the Lisburn Road entrance to the hospital is currently closed, however access can still be gained via the Donegall Road.”

Patients, visitors and staff travelling to the hospital are therefore being advised to use the Donegall Road entrance while the closure remains in place.

The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust confirms that Belfast City Hospital is normally accessible from both the Lisburn Road and Donegall Road entrances.

Emergency services remain at hospital site

Emergency services have been dealing with the incident since around noon.

No further details surrounding the circumstances of the death have been released at this stage.

Anyone travelling to Belfast City Hospital this afternoon should allow additional time for their journey and follow directions from police and hospital staff.
