The official Micky Murray portrait at Belfast City Hall has been unveiled as part of a long-standing civic tradition celebrating the city’s former Lord Mayors and local artistic talent.

The portrait of former Lord Mayor Councillor Micky Murray was officially unveiled at Belfast City Hall on Wednesday 9 September 2026.

Created by local artist Mel Carroll, the artwork will now be displayed inside City Hall alongside portraits of previous Lord Mayors.

The unveiling was announced by Belfast City Council, which commissions the portraits as part of its commitment to celebrating the city’s creative sector.

Micky Murray Portrait Joins Belfast City Hall Collection

Belfast City Council provides each First Citizen with an opportunity to work with a local artist to mark their term in office.

The tradition helps create a permanent visual record of Belfast’s civic history while also showcasing artists connected with the city.

Councillor Murray became Belfast’s First Citizen in June 2024.

His portrait will now become part of the collection displayed within Belfast City Hall.
